NICO SWZ Receives Award of Excellence

 

Egbe Akomolede ati Asa Yoruba, an Association for the promotion of Yoruba language and culture, Ondo state chapter, has presented the National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), South West Zone, with an Award of Excellence, for the promotion and sustenance of Yoruba language and culture in the zone.

Making the presentation on Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at the Ondo State Press Centre Hall, Alagbaka, Akure, Ondo State, the National President of the Association, Chief Dipo Gbenro, stressed that the Institute has made significant contributions to the sustenance of Yoruba language and culture since 2009, when the zonal office commenced operations in the South West.

He added that the establishment of the Omoluabi Club in Secondary Schools by NICO is a step in the right direction as it will help to shape the lives of African children, and thanked the Executive Secretary, Dr. Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma, for conceptualısing the Yoruba School Quiz Challenge, aimed at reviving the Yoruba culture among secondary school students.

In her welcome address, the Chairperson, Egbe Akomolede ati Asa Yoruba, Ondo State chapter, Mrs. Morenike Fadakini, appreciated everyone that has contributed to the sustenance of the Yoruba language and culture, reiteratıng that if language is taught in primary schools, it will not be difficult for students to learn it in the secondary schools, thus helpıng to save the Yoruba language and culture from going into extinction.

She thanked the Institute for constantly promoting the Nigerian culture and for being a backbone of the Association at various occasions.

Responding, the Zonal Head, Mr. Ohi Ojo, represented by the Head, Finance and Accounts, Mrs. Olufunmilola Owan, thanked the Association and  accepted the award on behalf of the Executive Secretary, Dr. Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma, and pledged the Institute’s continued support to the organization in its quest for the growth and sustenance of the language and culture of the Yoruba people.

The award was dedicated to the Executive Secretary, Dr. Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma.
