A university don has said that programmes of the National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO) remain one of the best thought-out programmes in the Nigerian culture sector, and commended the Institute for organizing a laudable workshop for cultural workers, proudly announcing the affiliation of the NICO Training School with his University.
The Head, Department of Theatre & Cultural Studies, Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), Professor Emmanuel Dandaura, who stated this, as chairman of the occasion, at the opening of a 2-day National Workshop, with the theme, “Repositioning Nigerian Cultural Workers for Improved Productivity,” at the NICO Training School complex, National Theatre Annex, Iganmu-Lagos, on Wednesday, 27th of June, 2012, said the workshop platform will go a long way in improving the level of productivity of participants.
While declaring the workshop open, the Executive Secretary, Dr. Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma, informed that the workshop had been restructured to constantly train and re-train cultural workers on quarterly basis, and promised that every edition will have knowledgeable resource persons.
Earlier, the Director, Training School, Prince Bamidele Olusa, welcomed participants to the workshop, which he said is important to cultural workers in order to enhance service delivery in the sector, reiterating that the workshop will be very beneficial them.
Head of Academic Unit, NICO Training School, Dr. Oladipo Kalejaiye,
who gave the Vote of Thanks, expressed gratitude to the Chairman and everyone present, for making out time out of their busy schedules to attend the workshop, and urged participants to spread the news when they get back to their respective states.
Present at the workshop as resource persons were the ES, Dr. Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma, Professor Ahmed Yerima (Redeemers University), Professor Emmanuel Dandaura (Nasarawa State University), Professor Femi Shaka (Lagos State University), Dr. Oladipo Kalejaiye (NICO Training School), Mr. Law Ikay Ezeh (NICO Training School), Mrs. Brigitte Yerima (NICO Lagos Liaison Office), and Prince Bamidele Olusa ((DTS, NICO Training School).
The workshop had participants from Bayelsa State Council for Arts and
Culture, Wushishi Local Government Area of Niger State, Ministry of Culture & Tourism, Oyo State, Ogun State Council for Arts and Culture, National Council for Arts and Culture, Lagos, Ministry of Culture & Tourism, Oyo State, Oyo State Council for Arts and Culture, Management Staff of NICO, and Coordinators and staff from NICO Zonal offices.
