The Executive Secretary/CEO of the National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), Dr. Barclays Ayakoroma, was in London as one of the Resource Persons for this year’s Isaac Boro Commemoration Day, where he presented a paper titled, “From Boroism To Ethnic Nationalism and Militancy In The Niger Delta: Towards A Cultural Agenda For The Izons In The Next Generation.”
The Boro Day event in London is being organised annually by the Ijaw People’s Association (IPA) of Great Britain and Ireland, just as the Ijaw National Alliance of the Americas (INAA) organise same in the United States of America, all in remembrance of Major Isaac Adaka Jasper Boro, the late Ijaw nationalist and pioneer advocate of resource control.
According to reports made available to NICO News, Dr. Ayakoroma did a PowerPoint presentation of the paper on Saturday, 21st August 2010, at the Lambeth Town Hall, Brixton Hill, Brixton London SW2 1JF.
His Excellency Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (GCFR), President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, who was expected as the Special Guest of Honour, was represented by Elder Braeyi Ekiye, Special Adviser to the President on Parastatals.
It will be recalled that the Boro Day event was started by IPA in 2005, under the dynamic and proactive leadership of Mr. Rowland Ekperi, and the event opened the international doors for the Bayelsa State Cultural Troupe, which then had Dr. Barclays Ayakoroma, as the Executive Director.
