The Executive Secretary of the National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), Dr. Barclays Ayakoroma, says the Institute is poised to turnaround its Annual Round Table on Cultural Orientation (ARTCO), for greater relevance. The ES made this known when he played host to a delegation of Royal Fathers from his Constituency, who paid him a courtesy call in his office at NICO Headquarters, Abuja.
Expressing delight over the visit, Dr. Ayakoroma used the opportunity to intimate his august visitors that the Institute, under his leadership, is committed to changing the value orientation of Nigerian youth who would rather associate themselves with foreign cultures and lifestyles to the detriment of our culture-oriented lifestyle.
According to him, the Institute is working on programmes such as the Annual Round Table on Cultural Orientation 2010, where the importance of “dressing Nigerian” will be further discussed. Dr. Ayakoroma said his leadership will not disappoint in seeing that the Institute fulfils the mandate for which it was established.
The Executive Secretary stated that NICO will partner with the Royal Fathers, who are custodians of our culture, in ensuring that youths in their domain partake in all NICO programmes, like the Indigenous Language Programme coming up in August 2010 where various major Nigerian languages will be taught.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Chief J.S. Welson said the Royal Fathers recognized the contributions of the Executive Secretary, Dr. Barclays Ayakoroma, as well as that of his Special Assistant, Hon. Nelson Ebi Campbell, which informed their being at NICO Headquarters to congratulate both sons of their constituency.
He used the opportunity to express appreciation to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Dr. Goodluck Jonathan GCFR, for the well-deserved appointment of their son, Dr. Barclays Ayakoroma, whom they said had paid his dues in the arts and culture arena.
Chief Welson noted that knowing the antecedents of Dr. Ayakoroma, the people of Sagbama Local Government and indeed Bayelsa State believe that he will be lifted to take up higher responsibilities to truly serve the nation.
They delegation later poured their Royal and elderly blessings on their sons and the Institute as well, praying that God will uplift NICO under the leadership of Dr. Ayakoroma.
On the delegation were King F. G. Tounaregha (Toru-Orua); His Highness Kings Adueze, a retired Chief Superintendent of Police and Royal Father of the NICO Executive Secretary’s home town (Toru-Angiama); High Chief Alabi Alabo Okili (Angalabiri); Chief J. Welson, a retired Director of Education (Bulou-Orua), who served as Spokes-person, Mr. Simon Adomokeme (Ebedebiri); Mr. Salem Vote (Ofoni); and Elder Steve Kuroseide (a Bayelsa-based journalist from the Constituency).
On hand to receive the Royal Fathers along with the Executive Secretary were the Director, Orientation and Cultural Affairs, Prince Dele Olusa, Acting Director, Finance and Account, Mr. Godson Ordu, Special Assistant to the ES, Hon. Nelson Ebi Campbell, and the Assistant Director (Protocol), Mr. Alex Omijie.
