ES Inaugurates Verification Committee

A Committee entrusted with the responsibility and mandate to look into proper employment of Staff into the National Institute for Cultural Orientation has been put in place.

Christened “Verification and Post Engagement Interview Committee,” set up to ensure that both Staff to be employed and those that have been employed, go through the process of interview and certificate verification at the point of engagement before he/she could be confirmed as genuine employee of the Institute.

The Executive Secretary of NICO, Dr. Barclays Ayakoroma, inaugurated the 6-member Committee on Tuesday, February 16th with the following Terms of Reference:

 • To determine the suitability and core competency of each temporary staff.

 • To determine the proper placement within the Institute or else where in the culture sector of the Public Service.

 • To verify the educational credentials of the personnel.

 • To assess and make appropriate recommendations as would be beneficial to the Staff and NICO.
 
The Committee has the Director, Admin. and Finance (DAF), Mr. Abayomi Oyelola, mni as Chairman. The Members comprise: Mr. Ebi Campbell, SA to the Executive Secretary, Mr. Festus Ihenetu, Director, Research & Documentation, Mr. Alex Omijie, Assistant Director, Protocol, Mr. Ibrahim Lawal, Chief Procurement Officer, while Mrs. Maria Okpuzor, Principal Admin Officer, it to serve as Secretary to the Committee.

The Executive Secretary, in his charge to the Committee cited complaints of Staff who were not appropriately placed at the point of their engagement, including cases of people that were placed on grades higher than what they were supposed to get.

While congratulating the Chairman and Members of the committee, for their ability to perform to the expectation of the NICO, Dr. Ayakoroma urged the Committee to adequately look into such cases, work within the time frame provided for them to conclude their assignment.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Abayomi Oyelola, mni, thanked the Executive Secretary for reposing on member the confidence to deliver. He, however, craved the indulgence of the Executive Secretary for latitude of time in the course of their assignment, but assured that the Committee hopes to work assiduously to deliver on the dead line.

The Committee has two months to complete its assignment.

Prince Dele Olusa, Director, Training & Orientation, Mr. Innocent I. Azuobu, a Director in the Institute, and Mr. Ohi Ojo, Assistant Director in charge of Corporate Affairs, were in attendance.
