Operators in the banking sector have been advised to cultivate mutually beneficial relationships with their clients in order to contribute meaningfully to the socio-cultural development of the Nigerian economy.
This advice was given by the Executive Secretary of NICO, Dr. Barclays Ayakoroma, when he received a delegation from the United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, at the NICO Head Office in Abuja.
Dr. Ayakoroma said that he expects UBA Plc and all other banks doing business with NICO to partner with the Institute in the execution of its programmes in Year 2010, noting that this could be achieved through adverts placement in NICO NEWS, the in-house newsletter of the Institute, attendance of NICO programmes, as well as direct sponsorship of programmes.
He however commended UBA for creating a desk to build relationship in the culture and tourism sector and enjoined the bank to approach the task with every sense of commitment to enhance the development of the sector.
The Executive Secretary noted that in the face of globalisation, the title sponsorship of the African Movie Academy Award (AMAA) by UBA Plc has gone a long way in improving the profile of the event, and hoped that the bank will extend such sponsorship to some NICO programmes.
Earlier in her remarks, the Regional Director of UBA, Wuse Region, who is also the Relationship Director in charge of culture and tourism matters in UBA, Mrs. Salome Garba, said the delegation was in NICO to thank the Management for the patronage over the years and to congratulate the Executive Secretary on his appointment.
Mrs. Garba said it was not in the character of UBA Plc to treat customers with levity, and that the visit was intended to find out how the bank could improve on its customer relations for effective service delivery in Year 2010.
She promised to address grey areas and cement whatever cracks that had occurred and that the Account Officer in charge of the NICO account with the bank, Mr. Raymond Sagbodje, will make the necessary amends.
Present at the occasion were the Director of Administration and Finance, Mr. Abayomi Oyelola, mni, the Director of Research and Documentation, Mr. Festus Ihenetu, the Director of Training and Orientation, Prince Dele Olusa, the S.A. to the Executive Secretary, Mr. Ebi Campbell, and the Assistant Director (Protocol), Mr. Alex Omijie.
