ES To Grace Lagos Indigenous Language Programme Opening

The Executive Secretary, Dr. Barclays Ayakoroma, will grace the opening ceremony of this year’s Nigerian Indigenous Language programme (NILP), taking place in Lagos on Friday, July 30th, 2010. Incidentally this will be his first since his appointment as the Executive Secretary/CEO on November 3, 2009, by late President Umar Musa Yar’Adua.

Dr. Ayakoroma revealed this during a visit to the Lagos office, which houses both the Liaison office and the Training School. In an exclusive chat with NICO News, the ES said it was imperative for him to host Her Excellency the Deputy Governor of Lagos state, Princess Sarah Adebisi Sosan, who will be the Special Guest of Honour at the occasion.

On his mission to Lagos, Dr. Ayakoroma said among other things, he came to tidy up matters with the Training School which was rounding off the academic session. He also announced that in line with that, a lecturer would be joining the Institute for his sabbatical, while two other applications were being considered. According to the ES, in order to strengthen the academic board of the Institute, some qualified members of staff had been duly deployed.

In his characteristic humour-laden response to a question on why he was in Lagos, the ES had this to say: “I’m like a man with several wives or children. I have to go round to see all of them at one time or the other. I can’t effectively look after them by remaining in Abuja”.

When asked if there was any cheering news for the Lagos staff, he responded: “It’s not only in Lagos, but all the zonal offices. From now on, every staff would have opportunity for training and development. For example, twenty members of staff from the headquarters have just attended training workshops this month. I’ve instructed all zonal heads to do a training time table to ensure that two members of staff would attend each month in their staff development programme. Also, promotions for deserving staff would be released as at when due.”

The ES was accompanied on the visit by the Director, Orientation and Cultural Affairs, Prince Dele Olusa, Asst. Director (Protocol), Mr. Alex Omijie, and the Ag. Head, Finance & Accounts, Mr. Godson Ordu.
