The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Her Excellency Princess Sarah Adebisi Sosan, will be the Special Guest of Honour at the Opening Ceremony of this year's Nigerian Indigenous Language Programme of the National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), which will take place at the National Theatre on Friday, July 30, 2010 at 10.00 am.
The four-week Long Vacation Language Programme, starting from August 2 - 31, will have Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba as languages of instruction to help Nigerians and non-Nigerians to learn an indigenous language of their choice in a conducive atmosphere.
The programme is also to help people pick up interest in indigenous languages, which UNESCO says may be in danger of extinction.
The Deputy Governor is a known advocate of indigenous languages, which she helps to push through schools, as her office supervises the Education Ministry.
The Executive Secretary, Dr. Barclays Ayakoroma, is expected to play host to Her Excellency Princess Sosan and other distinguished guest, at the National Theatre, Iganmu venue of the event.
